Sept. 27, 2003

MORAGA, Calif. - The No. 21 Stanford women's soccer team came out on top with a 1-0 win at St. Mary's on Saturday in the Cardinal's second double overtime match this season. Junior Natalie Sanderson scored the Stanford goal in the 106th minute of play to improve the Cardinal record to 5-3-1 this season.

Sanderson, a forward from Ventura, Calif., recorded seven shots against the Gaels, one-third of the Cardinal's total 21 attempts. At 106:45, Sanderson made good on the assist from junior Amy Grady for her second goal this year.

Sophomore Leah Tapscott notched five shots, three on goal, to up her season attempts total to 14. Stanford was able to out-shoot St. Mary's an impressive 21-4, while not allowing a single Gael shot attempt in either period of overtime.

Cardinal All-American goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart tallied four saves in her eighth complete game this season. The shutout marks the 26th in Barnhart's career and ties the goalie for third in the Stanford career recordbooks with Carly Smolak (1997-2000).

The Cardinal next play host to Santa Clara, Texas Christian and Loyola Marymount in the Stanford/Nike Invitational on Oct. 3 and Oct. 5 at Maloney Field.
