Matalonga Earns a Spot in the Main Draw at Laguna Niguel Futures

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. - The Arizona men's tennis team finished day four at the Laguna Niguel (Calif.) Futures on Monday, Sept. 29. Matalonga's win earns him a spot in the main draw, while Hagman's loss ends his tournament play.

Sophomore Roger Matalonga, of Terrassa, Spain, defeated Cameron Ball, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. Matalonga will continue play Tuesday, in the first round of the main draw where he is scheduled to face Adam Seri. Seri, a former Georgia Bulldog, earned the No. 18 seed in the main draw.

Senior Carl Hagman fell behind early by losing only his second set of the season, 6-2 to Daniel Sebescen. In the second set, Hagman fell behind once again, 2-0, and then was forced to retire.

Matalonga's victory improves his record to 4-0, while Hagman falls to 3-1. In total, the Wildcats are now 7-3 at the Laguna Niguel Futures.

Matalonga continues play in the main draw of the Laguna Niguel (Calif.) Futures on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 10 a.m.
