No. 1 Cal Ends First Day at Husky Invitational in Fifth Place

Bremerton, WA - The No. 1 ranked Cal men's golf team finished the first two rounds of play at the Husky Invitational today in fifth place with a score of 747 (+27). Scott Carlyle leads the Bears with a score of 143 (-1), good for third place overall. Jesse Ruda was the next best Cal performer with a 150 (+6), followed by Mid Pines Invitational champion Jeff Hood (+8).

Washington leads the tournament after 36 holes with a score of 731 (+11). The 54-hole tournament at Gold Mountain's par-72, 7,035-yard Olympic Course features 10 teams, including six from the Pac-10 and Tohoku Fukushi of Japan.

After the first round Cal finished with a score of 367 (+7). That was good for third place, three strokes behind Brigham Young at 364 (+4). Carlyle led the Bears with an opening round 69 (-3). Carlyle's score was the best of the first round, tied with Brigham Young's Oscar Alvarez. Hood was the only other Bear not over par in the first round. He carded a 72 (E). Rounding out the top five Cal scores, Michael Wilson shot a 75 (+3), freshman Matt Schreiber in his first action for Cal shot a 76 (+4), and Ruda shot a 78 (+6)

The third round will be held tomorrow morning.
