Softball Freshman Brianne McGowan Named To USA Junior National Team

Oct. 2, 2003

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Brianne McGowan, a freshman on the Oregon State softball team, was recently named to the USA Softball Junior Women's National Team. McGowan is one of 17 players selected to represent the United States at the 2003 ISF Junior Women's World Championships, October 12-20 in Nanjing, China.

'Brianne's selection to the Junior World Team was a great accomplishment,' said OSU head coach Kirk Walker. 'We're really excited to have a current player represent the USA in a major competition.'

The United States captured gold at the 1987 and 1995 ISF Junior Women's World Championships. In 1999, the last Junior Women's World Championship, the USA finished second behind Japan.

McGowan, from Reno, NV, was a three-sport star for Wooster High School, earning all-state honors in softball, volleyball and basketball. The 6-2 pitcher looks to make an immediate impact on the Beavers' roster.

'We'll miss her for two weeks of fall ball but are excited for her to come back with some great experience,' said Walker.
