SEATTLE - No. 4 California jumped out to an eight-stroke lead Monday after the first round of play at the 22nd-annual Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at Sahalee Country Club. The Golden Bears carded an opening-round score of three-under 285, while three-time defending tournament champion and defending NCAA champion USC is in second place with a five-over score of 293 at the 15-team tournament.

Cal was led by sophomore Sofie Andersson, who shot a three-under 69 to hold a one-stroke lead after 18 holes of play. Andersson's round included six birdies. She played the front nine in 34 and carded a 35 over the final nine holes to post her best round since transferring to Cal from Mississippi State.

The 13th-ranked Trojans' Rachel Bell, UCLA's Susie Matthews and Long Beach State's Hayley Wilkinson are tied for fourth at one-under 71.
