Glenview, Ill. - The Stanford men's golf team fired rounds of 298 and 291 (589) on the first day of competition at the Windon Memorial Classic at the North Shore Country Club and are in eigth place overall heading into the final 18 holes. Minnesota leads the field by three strokes (571) followed by Illinois (574), Purdue (577), Northwestern (579) and Toledo (579).

Stanford was led by Blake Mastalir who is tied for ninth individually with a 143 (71-72). Brandon Lawson is tied for 18th just two strokes back with a 145 (71-74) while teammate Kevin Blue is tied for 37th after carding a 149 (76-73). Matt Savage checks in tied for 62nd (81-72--153) and Kyle Gentry is tied for 74th (80-75--155).

Purdue's Peter Richardson sits atop the leaderboard after firing a nine-under 135 through 36 holes. Illinois' Joe Affrunti is four strokes back at four-under par 139. Three players are tied for third at three-under par 140.

Third round action concludes tomorrow in Glenview, Ill. at the North Shore Country Club with the final 18 holes.
