Cardinal Compete at Riviera/ITA All-American Championships

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Stanford's Story Tweedie-Yates advanced to the qualifying round of initial draws at the Riviera/ITA All-American Tennis Championships after wins in the first and second rounds on Tuesday at the Riviera Tennis Club.
In first-round competition, Tweedie-Yates downed Harvard's Alexis Matire 6-2, 7-5. The Cardinal moved on to the second round of the singles qualifying draw against Claire Carter of Washington. Tweedie-Yates, a native of Redmond, Wash., took the win 6-0, 6-4. The Stanford junior will face Florida's Jennifer Magley in the final qualifying round on Wednesday.
Cardinal senior Emilia Anderson was knocked out of action in the first round by Oklahoma's Anda Perianu 6-0, 6-1.
Freshman Theresa Logar defeated Gitte Ostermann of Nebraska 6-3, 6-2 to advance to second rounds and came against Dianne Hollands of Arizona. Hollands advanced with a 6-0, 6-3 victory.
Logar recently won the United States Tennis Association's Girls' 18 Super National Hard Court Singles Championship in San Jose to earn a berth in the main draw of the U.S. Open. Logar, who was also a finalist at the prestigious Easter Bowl Supernational Championship in 2002, has been ranked as high as fourth in the nation by the USTA in the Girls' 18 division.
