Oct. 7, 2003
TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's golf team shot an 18-over par 306 Tuesday to finish in a tie for 12th place at the Windon Memorial Classic at North Shore Country Club in Glenview, Ill.
Shooting par continues to be a problem for the Wildcats, who managed just one even-par round on the day and totaled just three for the tournament, en route to a 32-over-par 896 total over the event's 54 holes. Arizona finished 37 strokes behind tournament-winner Minnesota, who topped the 17-team field with a five-under 859 total.
Other than senior Chris Nallen, who carded an even-par 72 Tuesday, no other Arizona golfer in the tournament was within five shots of par during the final 18 holes. Nallen's 72 enabled him to pick up his second top-20 finish of the season, a tie foe 16th place at 219 (+3).
Teammate Nathan Lashley was the only other UA player to finish in the top half of the field. The junior from Scottsbluff, Neb., shot a final round 78 to finish in a tie for 28th place at 223 (+7).
Also competing for the Wildcats were freshmen Nathan Tyler, Josh Esler and Henry Liaw. Tyler shot a final round 79 to finish in a tie for 66th place at 229 (+13), while Esler tied for 69th place at 230 (+14). Liaw finished in 76th place with a three-round tally of 233 (+17).
Currently ranked 14th nationally, the Arizona men's golf team next will be in action on Oct. 13-14 at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in Birmingham, Ala.
