Oct. 7, 2003

Walnut Creek, Calif. - UCLA senior forward Sarah-Gayle Swanson has been named the Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Sept. 30-Oct. 6, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Swanson, from Denver, Colo., scored the game-winning goal with three seconds left in regulation as No. 3 UCLA escaped with a 1-0 road victory over UNLV Oct. 3 in Las Vegas. It was the fourth goal of the season for Swanson, who is tied for the team lead in goals and tied for sixth in the Pac-10.

UCLA (6-1-2 overall), ranked third in this week's NSCAA/Adidas and Soccer America polls, opens Pac-10 play at home this weekend, as No. 9/No. 12 Washington (7-2-2) and Washington State (4-6-0) visit Westwood, Calif.

This is Swanson's first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and UCLA's ninth weekly honor all-time.
