Mackenzie Ranked No. 1 Among College Golfers

Seattle - Washington senior golfer Brock Mackenzie (Yakima) is the nation's top collegiate golfer in this week's Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. Mackenzie has a rating of 67.21 in the weekly power rankings, placing him ahead of Navy's Billy Hurley (67.43) and Wake Forest's Bill Haas (67.99). Both Mackenzie and Haas are among the top candidates for the 2004 Hogan Award, presented to the nation's top collegiate golfer.

Mackenzie opened his senior season last week by winning the Opus NW Husky Invitational with an 8-under 54-hole score of 208 at Gold Mountain's Olympic Course. The victory was the fourth event championship in his career, making him Washington's all-time leader in tournament titles.

Last season he earned first-team PING All-American honors and placed fifth at the NCAA Championships.

Washington is ranked 24th in this week's poll. Mackenzie and the Hukies return to action Oct. 25-27 at The Nelson held at the Stanford Golf Course.
