No. 25 Women Of Troy Open Pac-10 Play With 1-1 Tie Against No. 10 Washington

LOS ANGELES - The No. 25 USC Trojans and No. 10 Washington Huskies played to a 1-1 tie Thursday in the Pac-10 Conference women's soccer opener for both teams at McAlister Field.

USC (4-4-4, 0-0-1) scored at 61:47 when freshman Tracy Lansing scored her first collegiate goal off a corner kick. Senior Megan Abbamonto was credited with the assist. Washington (7-2-3, 0-0-1) answered when Jaime Carstensen scored her third goal of the season at 77:07. She was open on the left side after getting a ball that was flicked by Tina Frimpong.

'We did everything we wanted to today,' said USC head coach Jim Millinder. 'We eliminated their big players throughout the game and I thought our defenders did an awesome job. We have to get our confidence going for Saturday's game against a good Washington State squad.'Washington goalie Lisa Brookens made seven saves while USC's Julie Peterson had one save. The Women of Troy outshot the Huskies by a 14-12 margin on the afternoon. It was the first tie ever between the two teams.

The game was broadcast on a tape-delayed basis and will be shown locally on FOX Sports Net on Thursday (Oct. 16) at 1 p.m. and Sunday (Oct. 19) at 1 p.m. and FOX Sports Net 2 on Sat. (Oct. 18) at 1:30 a.m. and Monday (Oct. 20) at 1 p.m. For Washington fans, the game will be broadcast on FOX Sports Northwest on Thursday (Oct. 16) at 1 p.m. and Saturday (Oct. 18) at 8 p.m. Check your local listings for correct times.
