Wildcats Fall in First Round Action

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - The Arizona women's tennis team completed the first day of the main-draw singles tournament of the Riviera ITA All - American Championships today in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Juniors Dianne Hollands and Maja Mlakar both lost today in their matches against two of the tournaments top seeds.

After winning three matches in the qualifying tournament to move on to the main-draw tournament, Hollands played a tough three set match against Stanford's Alice Barnes only to lose in a tiebreak 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(5). Barnes entered the tournament as the fifth seeded player.

Mlakar also fell to a seeded player in the first round today. She lost to number three seed, Northwestern's Christelle Grier 7-5, 6-2.

The Wildcats will next travel to San Diego, Calif. for the ITA Fall Regional Championships. The tournament is set to begin Oct. 23 and will continue until Oct. 27.
