Cardinal Men Prepare For Alister MacKenzie Invitational

Stanford Prepare For Bay Area Tournament: The Stanford men's golf team will play in its second tournament in as many weeks, as they head across the Bay to the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, host by the University of California, October 13-14 at the Meadow Club (par 71 - 6,585 yards) in Fairfax, Calif. The participants will play two rounds on Monday and the third and final round on Tuesday. Cardinal tee times are scheduled for 8:05 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. on Monday and 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
Tournament Participants: The two-day, three-round tournament features 16 teams, including five Pac-10 squads. The 2002 field consists of Fresno State, Michigan, Oregon, California, UCLA, Northwestern, Nevada-Reno, UC Irvine, USF, Purdue, Illinois, Pacific, San Jose St., Oregon St., North Carolina-Greensboro and Stanford.
Last Year At The MacKenzie: The Stanford men's golf team shot a final round of 310 to finish tied for 16th with a 901. Cardinal Ron Won tied for 12th individually to lead Stanford, shooting a three-round total of one-under par 212 (67-69-76). Kyle Gentry finished 73rd carding a 228 (75-77-76) for the invite while teammate Del de Windt placed 80th with a 232 (78-78-76). Scott MacDonald was 86th with a 240 (79-79-82). Inaugural defending champion, Fresno State, looks to repeat its team and individual titles. The Bulldogs Nick Watney shot a 202 (-9) to win last year.
Last Time Out: Stanford finished 11th at the Windon Memorial Classic, carding a 895 for the tournament. The Cardinal was led by Blake Mastalir's 19th place finish. Freshman Brandon Lawson tied for 36th while teammate Kevin Blue tied for 43rd individually. Sophomore Kyle Gentry tied for 57th and freshman Matt Savage tied for 80th.
Up Next: The Cardinal will host The Nelson Invitational, Oct. 24-26, at the Stanford Golf Course.
