No. 13 UW Volleyball Sweeps Oregon

Eugene, Ore.- The 13th-ranked Washington volleyball team defeated Oregon in straight games this evening to improve to 12-4 overall and 3-4 in the Pac-10. With the 30-20, 20-24, 30-19 UW victory, the Ducks drop to 3-12 overall and 0-6 in conference play.

A trio of Washington players had double figure kills, led by Kaitlin Leck and Brie Hagerty with 11 each. Kara Bjorklund also had double-digit kills with 10 while Darla Myhre and Jessica Veris each added nine.

The Huskies held the advantage over the Ducks in every offensive category, including hitting percentage (.376 to .149) and kills (53 to 38).

Courtney Thompson ran the Washington offense, dishing 45 assists on the night, while also picking up 11 digs. Libba Lawrence and Candace Lee chipped in 10 digs apiece as UW out dug Oregon 47 to 26.

The Huskies, who were shaky in their serve and serve receive last weekend, rebounded with a strong performance tonight that including seven aces and just two reception errors. Veris had four aces, while Hagerty logged a pair.

Tonight's game was televised by Fox Sports Net and will be aired on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Washington continues Pac-10 play tomorrow when it takes on Oregon State at 7 p.m. The OSU game will be taped by Fox Sports Northwest to air on Sunday at 2 p.m.
