No. 22 Cal Ties No. 8 Washington, 1-1, in Double OT

BERKELEY, Calif. - No. 22 California came from behind to tie No. 8 Washington, 1-1, in double overtime Friday afternoon at Edwards Stadium. The Golden Bears' record now stands at 5-4-2 (1-0-1 Pac-10), while the Huskies are 7-1-2 (1-1-1 Pac-10).

Gavin Hobbs gave Washington a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 35th minute. The play developed off a free kick from Leo Totev, which Casey Armstrong sent off the crossbar and Hobbs knocked in the rebound.

The Bears evened the game in the 54th minute with a goal from reserve Pieter Berger. Kyle Navarro was credited with the assist. The goal was Berger's first of 2003, while the assist was Navarro's third this season.

Cal outshot Washington, 21-11, overall, including a 6-1 edge in overtime. Berger and Tyson Wahl each tallied four shots to lead the Bears.

The Bears next face Oregon State Sunday at 2 p.m. at Edwards Stadium.
