Oct. 10, 2003

Stanford, Calif. - Oregon State's defense held Stanford to only two shots in 90 minutes of play as the Beavers recorded a 1-0 victory over the Cardinal in a Pac-10 men's soccer game on Friday night at Maloney Field.

The game's only goal came with 20:14 left in the first half when freshman Carlos Cornejo scored his first collegiate goal. Cornejo fired a shot from 20 yards past Cardinal goalkeeper Robby Fulton. Robbie Findley and Ryan Johnson were given assists on Cornejo's goal.

Stanford's first shot on goal came late in the first half, and their second attempt was at 6:13 of the second half when Aaron Maines rocketed a shot that sailed just past the left post of the Oregon State goal.

Stanford held Alan Gordon, the Pac-10's leading scorer (18 points), scoreless although Gordon did take five shots on goal.

The loss ended Stanford's eight-game win streak and ten-game unbeaten streak against the Beavers dating back to October 6, 1995. The Cardinal still leads the series, 14-2-2.

The loss dropped Stanford to 2-7-2 overall and 0-2-0 in the Pac-10. Oregon State raised its season record to 8-4-0, and 2-1-0 in the conference.

Stanford hosts Washington on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Maloney Field.
