12th-Ranked UW Falls to No. 3 UCLA on Golden Goal

LOS ANGELES - Bristyn Davis scored a golden goal with less than two minutes remaining in the final overtime session Saturday, lifting third-ranked UCLA to a 3-2 victory over No. 12 Washington in a Pac-10 women's soccer contest at Drake Stadium.

Iris Mora assisted on all three goals for UCLA which improved to 9-1-2 with a perfect 2-0 Pac-10 ledger.

The Huskies dropped to 0-1-1 in conference play with a 7-3-3 overall record. UW has been involved in six overtime games this season, including Thursday's 1-1 tie at No. 18 USC. Saturday's loss dropped UW's overtime record to 1-2-3.

The Bruins owned a 1-0 halftime lead by virtue of a goal by Sarah-Gayle Swanson at 29:33. She headed in a corner kick from Mora.

Husky freshman Alec Mills netted her second collegiate goal off a pass from Nikki Gamble, evening the score 1-1 at 52:27.

UCLA reclaimed the lead at 64:12 when Mora sent a free kick to Whitney Jones who headed it into the goal.

UW senior Melissa Bennett scored an unassisted goal from 20 yards out at 76:36 that forced overtime.

Davis registered the game-winning goal at 108:35, capping a dribbling foray down the left flank with a shot past Washington goalkeeper Lisa Brookens. UCLA won its last three meetings with the Huskies, all by one-goal margins.

Brookens recorded a season-high nine saves for UW which was outshot by a 20-9 margin. Bruin goalkeeper Arianna Criscione had three saves.

The Huskies return to Seattle for their Pac-10 home opener, Friday, Oct. 17 against Oregon State. Kick-off is 7 p.m. at Husky Soccer Field.
