CAL COMPETES AT STANFORD: No. 6 California looks to defend its 2002 Stanford Pepsi Intercollegiate title Friday-Sunday, Oct. 17-19, at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif. The 54-hole tournament is staged on Friday and Saturday at 8 a.m. from the first and 10th tees, while Sunday's final round will be a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
A LOOK AT THE FIELD: The 18-team field includes: No. 2 Arizona, Arizona State, No. 6 Cal, No. 1 Duke, No. 4 New Mexico, New Mexico State, Oregon, Oregon State, No. 17 Pepperdine, San Jose State, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, No. 19 Tulsa, No. 5 UCLA, No. 9 Vanderbilt, No. 28 Washington, Washington State and host No. 25 Stanford.

2002 STANFORD INTERCOLLEGIATE IN REVIEW: The Stanford Intercollegiate was the second of seven tournaments Cal won during the 2002-03 season. The Bears posted a 54-hole score of 885 to hold off Vanderbilt (887) and Washington (896). Former Cal All-American Vikki Laing led the Bears with a third-place finish (219), while former Cal All-Pac-10 star Ria Quiazon tied for fourth at 220.
HUARTE NAMED PRESEASON ALL-AMERICAN: After earning honorable mention All-America honors from the NGCA last season, senior Sarah Huarte has been tabbed a second team preseason All-American by Golfweek. Huarte has the second-best stroke average on the team in 2003 at 74.8 and tied for second at The Topy Cup to start the season.
TEMPLE TERRIFIC IN 2003: After filling mainly the No. 6 role at Cal over the last two seasons, senior Anna Temple has clearly stepped up her game this year. The Berkeley, Calif., native leads this year's team with a 74.0 stroke average, placing fifth at The Topy Cup and tying for fourth at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, which she led by two strokes heading into the final round. She also has posted career bests for 18 (70), 36 (142) and 54 (222) holes in 2003. Temple is currently ranked a career best of No. 18 by Golfweek.
CAL TIES FOR SECOND AT EDEAN IHLANFELDT INVITATIONAL: Cal clung to a one-shot lead heading into the final round of the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational and ended the tournament tied with UCLA for second at 899. Behind tournament winner Erica Blasberg, Arizona claimed the title at 896
INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR RETURNS THIS SEASON: As with recent teams, the 2003-04 Bears continue to boast an international flavor. Three golfers have experience playing for different national teams - senior Claire Dury (New Zealand) and sophomores Sophia Sheridan (Mexico) and Sofie Andersson (Sweden).
