Cougar Rowing Kicks Off Season At The Head Of Spokane

What's Happening This Week: The Washington State University women's rowing team looks to continue its success when it opens up its fall season at the Head of the Spokane Regatta against the Gonzaga Bulldogs at the Spokane River, Saturday, Oct. 18...the regatta begins at 9:15 a.m...the Cougars' varsity eight, second varsity eight, third varsity eight, varsity four and novice eight crews will compete...the race will be a head race with boats starting at timed intervals and the winners will be based on the crews best time on the 3,500 meter course...due to construction on the Argonne Street Bridge fans are encouraged to watch the racing action from Boulder Beach along Upriver Drive or from the finish line at the Gonzaga Boat House.
2002-03 Season Recap: Under first year coach Jane LaRiviere, the Cougars earned their first team bid to the NCAA Championships where they garnered a top 12 finish...WSU earned its NCAA team bid in large part to a third place finish at the Pac-10 Championships...at the Pac-10s, the varsity eight defeated No.2 California and No. 8 USC en route to a third place finish...the varsity eight was ranked as high as No. 7 in the USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association NCAA Division I Varsity Eight Coaches Poll.
Coaching Staff: LaRiviere begins her second season at the helm of the Cougars...LaRiviere arrived at the Palouse after serving as the recruiting coordinator as well as the women's freshman and novice coach at Oregon State for eight years...LaRiviere is assisted by third year novice coach Vita Scaglione and second year assistant coach Janey Charlton.
LaRiviere On Entering Her Second Year At WSU: 'We're going to take the same approach as last year but I think this year will be easier because our technique and quality of rowing has improved.'
LaRiviere On Her Goals For The Fall Season: 'Our main goal is to race every rower and create a positive experience that carries over to winter training sessions.'

Head to Spokane, take I-90 East bound through Spokane
EXIT at Broadway (# 286)
Turn RIGHT at the top of the ramp
Turn LEFT onto Park St (turn just before 7-11)
Keep going to the River and then turn LEFT onto a gravel road
Continue driving on this road, it will cut across a field and go through a gate.
