Joanna Kao Advances to SMC ITA Invitational Singles Finals

MORAGA, Calif. - Stanford sophomore Joanna Kao tallied two victories on Friday to advance to the final round of women's singles at the St. Mary's College ITA Invitational at the Korth Tennis Complex.

After advancing on a bye in the first round, Kao faced Urska Dvorsek and took her first win of the day 7-6 (2), 6-4. Against the ninth-seeded Jamie Buterbaugh of Gonzaga, Kao advanced to the round of 16 after a 6-3, 6-3 win. Kao will face No. 7-seed Katherine Heil of Pacific on Saturday at 10:15 a.m.

Sophomore Jessica Leck downed Gonzaga's Leigh Orne 6-3, 6-4 in first-round action. Leck then fell to Megan Tiegs of USF 6-2, 6-1 to drop out of competition.
