No. 18 USC Gets Win Of The Century At No. 21 California
Oct. 17, 2003
BERKELEY, Calif. - Sophomore Tina Sutorius (Pleasanton/Amador Valley HS) scored the only goal in the game Friday and the No.18 USC Trojans defeated the No. 21 California Golden Bears, 1-0, in Pac-10 Conference action at Edwards Stadium. Head coach Jim Millinder registered his 100th win in eight seasons at USC and now possesses a 100-46-13 record with the Women of Troy.
Junior goalie Julie Peterson (Mission Viejo/Santa Margarita HS) made five saves for her sixth shutout of the season. She tied the school career mark with her 14th shutout, tying the record held by Laura Badagliacco (1994-97).
Sutorius scored at 8:45 off a feed from defender Jocelyn Leche. She caught Cal goalkeeper Anna Key out of the box and lifted the shot over her head, rolling into the goal on one bounce. The Trojans (6-4-4, 2-0-1 Pac-10) held off the Golden Bears (6-4-3, 1-2-0 Pac-10), absorbing 12 shots in the game.
USC has lost only once in its last eight games, holding a 4-1-3 mark during that stretch.
The Women of Troy travel to Stanford on Sunday (Oct. 19) for a 1 p.m. match.
