Swanson Helps No. 3 Bruins Down Cal, 1-0

Berkeley, Calif. - Bruin midfielder Sarah-Gayle Swanson registered her second game-winning goal of the season Sunday, helping No. 3 UCLA defeat Cal, 1-0 before 1,186 at Edwards Stadium. With the victory, UCLA improves to 10-1-3 overall and 3-0-1 in Pac-10 play. Cal drops to 6-5-3 overall and 1-3 in conference action.

Swanson, who also scored the game-winning goal against UNLV back on Oct. 3 and now ranks second on the team in scoring with 12 points, put the Bruins on the board in the 13th minute with an assist from Nandi Pryce. Pryce sent a free kick into the box that Swanson was able to head past Cal goalkeeper Anna key.

Bruin goalkeeper Sarah Lombardo started the match for UCLA, playing 77 scoreless minutes, making one save. Freshman Arianna Criscione made two saves in the final 13 minutes of action.

UCLA concludes its Bay Area road trip with a 1-0-1 record. The Bruins played to a 0-0 draw with Stanford on Friday.

UCLA went 5-0 against Cal this week in a number of sports. In addition to Sunday's women's soccer victory, UCLA edged Cal in football, men's water polo, men's soccer and women's volleyball.
