Women's Golf Finish in Sixth Place at Stanford

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Arizona women's golf team finished the Stanford Women's Intercollegiate in sixth place Sunday after its final day of competition in Palo Alto, Calif.

The Wildcats ended play sixth place, after shooting 14-over-par 878. Arizona finished 33 strokes behind tournament champion Duke after the Blue Devils shot a 19-under-par 845. Washington (850) and UCLA (859) occupy second and third places, respectively. California placed fourth with a 5-over-par 869. New Mexico rounded out the top-5, after carding an 875.

Individually Arizona sophomore Erica Blasberg tied for first with Duke's Elizabeth Janangelo, after shooting a 209 (-7). This is the third consecutive first place finish of the season for the native of Corona, Calif. On Sept. 26-28 Blasberg took first at the Mason Rudolph Invitational and on Oct. 6-8 Blasberg tied for first at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational.

Sophomore Whitney Welch tied for 30th after shooting 5-over-par 221. Sophomore Lani Elston tied for 33rd at 6-over-par 222. Junior Mar Garcia finished tied at 57th after shooting 13-over-par 229. Junior Miriam Kraschinski tied for 75th after shooting 21-over-par 237.

Also competing for Arizona as an individual sophomore Katie Christy, who placed 94th after carding 39-over-par 255.

The Wildcats will tee off next in the Hooters Collegiate Match play Championship in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Nov. 2-4. The tournament is being contested at Barefoot Resort, Dye course.
