Erica Schelly Out With Broken Foot

Oct. 20, 2003

SEATTLE - Washington women's basketball sophomore Erica Schelly broke her left foot in the Huskies' first official practice Sat., Oct. 18, and will miss the start of the 2003-2004 season, head coach June Daugherty announced Monday.

Schelly, a native of Fort Collins, Colo., broke the fifth metatarsal bone in her left foot and will have surgery to repair the injury in the coming week. Schelly will be out for at least eight weeks.

'We're very disappointed to see Erica go down like this in the first day of practice,' Daugherty said. 'The news is very difficult, but Erica is holding up well and we hope for a speedy recovery. We look forward to seeing her back out on the court as soon as possible.'

As a freshman last year, Schelly came off the bench in 19 games, averaging 1 point and 0.3 rebounds per game. She scored a season-high four points at UCLA, Jan. 3, 2003.
