Slovic and Vlaski Win Doubles Crown At ITA Regionals

EUGENE, ORE - The Washington men's tennis duo of freshman Alex Slovic and junior Alex Vlaski won the doubles crown, while freshman Chris Floyd won the consolation singles title as the ITA Regional Championships came to a close in Eugene, Ore., Monday.
Slovic and Vlaski, the tournament's top-seeded team, defeated unseeded Gernot Fischer and Eric Kochanski from Santa Clara, 8-2, to earn the title of regional champions and grab a spot in the ITA National Indoor Championships, held Nov. 6-9, at the University of Michigan.
Slovic also competed in the singles final, but fell to Conor Niland from Cal in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2. Niland was the top-seeded player, while Slovic was seeded sixth. By advancing to the regional singles final, Slovic also earned a spot in the singles draw at the ITA National Indoors. Vlaski already secured his spot in the singles draw at National Indoors by winning the All-American Championship singles title earlier this month.
The Huskies were represented in all three final matches played in Eugene, as Floyd and junior Scott Felsenthal won their consolation singles semifinal contests and faced off with each other in the finals. Floyd downed his elder teammate, defeating Felsenthal in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2.
