Friday, Oct. 24, 7 p.m. - Eugene, Ore.

at Oregon State
Saturday, Oct. 25, 7 p.m. - Corvallis, Ore.

The Facts
The undefeated and top-ranked USC women's volleyball team (18-0, 9-0 Pac-10) - the defending NCAA and Pac-10 champion - continues its road swing this week when it travels to Oregon and Oregon State. The Women of Troy face the Ducks (3-15, 0-9 Pac-10) on Friday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. in Eugene, then take on the Beavers (12-9, 2-7 Pac-10) on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. in Corvallis. USC is coming off a 3-0 win over then-No. 7 Stanford and a 3-2 victory over previously fifth-ranked California. For her performance against last week's ranked opponents, senior April Ross was named Pac-10 Player of the Week.

The Rankings
After entering the season at No. 1, the Women of Troy have held on to the top spot every week. USC kept all 65 first-place votes to remain No. 1 on this week's USA Today/AVCA Coaches Top 25 poll and the top spot in the Volleyball magazine poll.

USC Takes Lead in Conference Race
USC improved to 9-0 in conference play with last week's wins over Stanford and Cal to take a two-game lead in the race for the 2003 conference title. Stanford and Cal are currently tied for second placewith 7-2 records.

April Ross Named Pac-10 Player of the Week
April Ross was named Pac-10 Player of the Week on Oct. 20 for her performances against Stanford and Cal. She led the team to wins by averaging a .383 hitting percentage, 4.75 kills, 3.25 digs and 1.0 blocks per game, in addition to collecting three aces and a total of 45.5 points. In a sweep of Stanford, Ross hit .607 and tallied 18 kills. Against Cal she posted a season-high 20 kills, and collected 17 digs. In addition, she was vital down the stretch for the Women of Troy. In the decisive fifth game, she recorded nine kills, no errors, hit .818 and scored five of USC's final six points to beat Cal and remain undefeated.

USC Gets 300th Conference Victory
With a 3-2 win at Cal, USC recorded the program's 300th conference win. The Women of Troy's 300-126 (.704) current conference mark includes matches played as part of the Pac-10, Pac-West and WCAA.

Charting the Streaks
USC has won its last 30 consecutive matches, 12 consecutive home matches and 27 consecutive road matches. The Trojans also have not dropped a road match since the 2001 season (a 3-1 loss at Stanford, 11/10/01).

And Now It's Down To Two...
Prior to facing USC, Cal fell to UCLA on Friday, Oct. 17, to put an end to its undefeated season. USC (18-0) and Georgia Tech (20-0) are now the only Division I women's volleyball teams that remain unbeaten this season.

Trojans Survive First Five-Gamer
The Trojans five-game victory over Cal was only their second match of the year to go beyond three games, and it was the team's first five-game effort since falling to Stanford 3-2 last season on Nov. 2.

USC Knocks Down Two More Top 10 Teams
Last week's wins over then-No. 7 Stanford (Oct. 17) and No . 5 California (Oct. 18), marked the Women of Troy's seventh and eighth victories over ranked opponents this season. All of its ranked foes have been ranked among the top 15 and seven of the eight have been ranked among the top 10. With arguably the nation's toughest schedule, USC beat No. 2 Hawai'i (Aug. 22), No. 3 Florida (Aug. 21), No. 8 Northern Iowa (Aug. 30), No. 8 Pepperdine (Sept. 3), No. 13 Washington (Oct. 4) and No. 7 Stanford (Oct. 17), all by 3-0 scores, and beat No. 9 UCLA (Sept. 19), 3-1, and No. 5 California (Oct. 18), 3-2.

Pac-10 Features Five Teams in Top 10
The Pac-10 continues to show why it is the most competitive volleyball conference in the nation. Five Pac-10 teams are ranked among the top 10 in the AVCA poll this week, including No. 1 USC, No. 6 Stanford, No. 7 California, No. 9 UCLA and No. 10 Washington. Half of the conference is in the top 10 and half of the top 10 is from the Pac-10 Conference. The West Coast Conference (Pepperdine, LMU, Santa Clara, San Diego) is next on the list with four teams ranked in the top 20.

Wins This Week Could Match Best Start Since 1977
With two wins this week, the Women of Troy would improve to 20-0, surpassing last year's 19-0 start (USC dropped to 19-1 after falling to Stanford on Nov. 2). A 20-0 record would mark the best start since 1977 when USC captured the AIAW National Championship and finished the season with a 38-0 record - the first undefeated record ever logged by a women's volleyball team in NCAA or AIAW history.

Losing to the Trojans Is A Good Thing?!?!
So far this season, seven of USC's eight ranked opponents have found that losing to USC is not necessarily a bad thing. Of the seven ranked opponents the Women of Troy have faced and beaten, three teams held on to their rankings the following week (#2 Hawai'i, #3 Florida, #13 Washington) and four teams moved up in the polls (Northern Iowa went from #8 to #6, Pepperdine jumped from #8 to #7, UCLA moved from #9 to #8 and Stanford went from #7 to #6). Cal is the only team to drop from #5 to #7.

Outstanding Numbers
USC is currently leading the Pac-10 in hitting percentage (.381), opponent hitting percentage (.144), kills (17.60) and assists per game (15.77). The Women of Troy lead the nation with their .381 attack percentage, in addition to ranking sixth in assists, blocks and kills.

It's All About The Team
Just like last season, USC relies on a true 'team' effort to win matches. There is not just one go-to player for the Trojans, there's a team full of standouts all sharing responsibility. Currently, three players are averaging more than 3.33 kills per game (April Ross - 3.65, Emily Adams - 3.49, Keao Burdine - 3.33), three average nearly 1.0 block per game (Adams-1.44, Bibiana Candelas-1.18, Katie Olsovsky-0.98), three average more than 2.50 digs per game (Nicole Davis - 3.59, Ross - 2.93, Burdine - 2.58) and three players are hitting above .400 (Adams - .461, Candelas - .459, Staci Venski - .402).

Stanford/California Recap
vs. Stanford
- April Ross led an outstanding hitting display as USC defeated No. 7 Stanford, 3-0 (30-17, 30-21, 30-23), on Oct. 17. The Trojans entered the record books by hitting .545 for the match and saw five players hit above .550, including Ross, who had 18 kills, made only one error and hit at a .607 clip. The Trojans' hitting produced only one error in the first game, as they stunned Stanford by quickly grabbing a 30-17 win. USC led from the start in game two before sealing the 30-21 victory. In the final game, Stanford earned its first lead of the match and led by as much as five points, 12-7, before the Women of Troy started to work their way back. USC reclaimed the advantage at 15-14 en route to the 30-23 win.
vs. California - It took a five-game effort, but USC defeated No. 5 Cal, 3-2 (30-22, 30-18, 27-30, 24-30, 15-13), on Oct. 18 to remain unbeaten. In their most difficult match this season, April Ross led the Trojans with 20 kills, while Emily Adams contributed a career-high 10 blocks. The teams headed into the deciding set and matched each other point-for-point, reaching an 11-11 tie. That's when the Women of Troy looked to Ross to take control. The senior powered consecutive kills to put the Trojans ahead 12-11. The Bears followed with a point, only to watch Ross post another two kills to give the Women of Troy match point. USC allowed one more Cal point before Ross put an end to the five-game battle with a cross-court attack.
