THIS WEEK: The Beavers (12-9, 2-7 Pacific-10) kick of the second half of Pac-10 play at home against No. 9 UCLA and No. 1 USC this week. OSU opens the week with a 7 p.m. match against UCLA (14-4, 6-3) on Friday, October 24, and then plays USC (18-0, 9-0) at 7 p.m., Saturday, October 25. Admission is free both nights.

RECAPPING LAST WEEK'S ACTION: OSU dropped two matches in the desert, losing 3-0 to Arizona and 3-2 to Arizona State. OSU hit .311 against the Wildcats for the Beavers' best hitting percentage against a Pac-10 opponent this year. The Beavers had a 2-1 lead over the Sun Devils, but ASU won game four and then overcame a 10-6 Beaver lead in game five to win the match. Amanda Eggert hit .452 with a team-high 24 kills (3.00 kpg), and Anne Watts-Roberts added 23 kills (2.88 kpg). K.C. Frederic carried the defense, picking up one-third of OSU's total digs over the weekend. She finished with 33 (4.12 dpg) of OSU's 98 digs in the two matches.

COMMENTS FROM COACH SOMERA: 'It's going to be an exciting week of Pac-10 volleyball, with No. 1 USC and No. 9 UCLA in town. We're rebounding from a difficult week in the desert, but I have no doubt we'll show the resiliency that we've shown throughout the season and start the second round of Pac-10 play with some good volleyball.'

BLOCK PARTY: OSU's blocking came out in full force against Arizona and Arizona State last week. The Beavers averaged 2.75 blocks per game, well above their season average of 2.03 per game, and outblocked the opposition 22-9. Prior to this past weekend, the Beavers had not outblocked a Pac-10 opponent all weekend. OSU finished with a season-high 15 blocks against ASU and had seven against Arizona. Brittany Cahoon averaged 1.33 blocks per game, with four against both Arizona and Arizona State in six total games of action. Anne Watts-Roberts also had a hand in eight blocks (1.00 bpg) over the weekend. Amanda Eggert and Laura Collins had six blocks apiece. All six blocks for Collins came against Arizona State for a new career-best.

FREDERIC DIGS HER WAY INTO TOP 10: K.C. Frederic's recent defensive surge continued in the desert, and the senior libero made her way into the Pac-10 rankings for the first time this season as a result. Frederic had a season-high 21 digs against Arizona State and had 12 against Arizona to lead OSU in both matches and extend her double-figure streak to six matches (She has 14 total for the season). After the weekend, she had improved her average to 3.07 digs per game, ranking her in a tie for ninth in the Pac-10. She's averaging a team-best 3.45 digs per game against Pac-10 teams, with average ranking sixth in the league for conference matches. Frederic has averaged 4.32 digs per game the last three weeks.

EGGERT UP TO .300: After hitting an impressive .452 against Arizona and Arizona State last week, Amanda Eggert improved her season hitting percentage to a team-best .333. It also improved her career hitting percentage to .300, which ranks as the fourth best mark on OSU's career list behind Julie Steding (.371, 82-83), Sandi Huntley (.318, 80-82) and Staci Hintze (.308, 93-96). Eggert entered her junior year as a career .252 hitter but has hit .400 or higher in nine matches this year - including the last three.

LAWRENCE IN ELITE GROUP: Allison Lawrence ranks among the Top 10 players in the Pac-10 Conference for digs, kills, aces and points per game. She's tied for third for aces (0.47 sapg), and ranks fifth for digs (3.38 dpg), seventh for kills (3.66 kpg) and ninth for points (4.25 ppg). She's been ranked in all four categories the last six weeks. For two weeks, she was the only Pac-10 player ranked in all four areas, although Cal's Mia Jerkov has joined her the last four weeks.
