Stanfords Barnhart Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- STANFORD junior goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart has been named the Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 14-Oct. 20, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Barnhart, from Gilbertsville, Pa., led the Cardinal to back-to-back shutouts against No. 3 UCLA and No. 18 USC for her fifth and sixth shutouts on the season. Against the Bruins on Oct. 17, Barnhart recorded seven saves off 24 shots as Stanford played UCLA to a scoreless tie. In the 2-0 upset over the No. 18 Trojans on Oct. 19, she recorded four saves, which pushed her career mark to 112 saves. Barnhart currently ranks first in the Stanford record books with a 0.77 career goals against average and ranks third all-time with 28 career shutouts.

The Cardinal held UCLA scoreless for the first time in nine matches and advanced its record to 7-6-2 overall, 2-1-1 in Pac-10 play. With the consecutive wins against the ranked Los Angeles schools, Stanford re-entered the Soccer America rankings this week at No. 17. Stanford heads north this weekend for games at Oregon and Oregon State.

This is Barnhart's second Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and Stanfords's 13th weekly honor all-time.
