UW-USC Game Notes

Oct. 25, 2003

USC's 43 points were the third-highest total scored by either team in a USC-Washington game and the most since the Trojans beat UW, 44-7, in 1931. The most points ever scored by one team in the series is 48 (a 48-0 Trojan victory in 1929).

UW quarterback Cody Pickett moved past Stanford's John Elway (1979-82) to No. 6 on the Pac-10 all-time passing yardage list. With 274 yards today, Pickett now has 9,364 career passing yards. Elway threw for 9,349. Next on the list is Oregon State's Erik Wilhem (9,393 from 1985-88).

Pickett also moved into a tie for 20th place on the Pac-10's career passing touchdowns list with 51. He's tied with Cal's Troy Taylor (1986-89).

UW receiver Reggie Williams now sits at No. 3 on the Pac-10's career receiving yards list with 3,265. Williams passed USC's Johnnie Morton (3,201 yards from 1990-93) and Arizona's Dennis Northcutt (3,252 from 1996-99) today. Williams also moved into sixth on the career receptions list with 212, moving beyond USC's Kareem Kelly (204 from 1999-2002). Williams caught a pass in his 33rd consecutive game, the longest active streak in the Pac-10.

Thanks largely to injuries, Reggie Williams had his first-career kickoff return and first career punt return in the second quarter. RS-freshmen Shelton Sampson and Isaiah Stanback also had their first-ever kick returns in the game.

Reggie Bush's 60-yard touchdown reception during the first drive of the third quarter was his first career receiving touchdown. It was also the longest pass reception of his brief tenure at Troy and the longest completion of USC quarterback Matt Leinart's career.

USC fullback Brandon Hancock's 52-yard touchdown reception was the longest catch of his career.

Ronald Nunn's first-quarter interception return for a touchdown marked the fourth time this year that the Trojans have returned a pick for a TD and, at 57 yards, was the longest of the four. It was the first interception of Nunn's career, but his second TD as he returned a fumble for a TD against Hawaii earlier this season. Nunn also recovered a Husky fumble later in the game.

Today's Husky loss broke a streak of six straight home wins in games televised by ABC-TV. That streak included wins over Michigan and Washington State in 2001, Miami, Arizona and UCLA in 2000 and Stanford in 1999. The last UW home loss in an ABC game was in 1999 vs. Arizona State. Of the six wins, four came against ranked teams, including three in the top-11 (#4 Miami, #9 WSU, #11 Michigan).

Washington hadn't lost to USC at Husky Stadium since a 22-17 loss in 1993.

While Husky cornerback Derrick Johnson saw his streak of four straight games with an interception broken today, he did force and recover a third-quarter fumble on the USC 17-yard line.

USC's 214 rushing yards today were the most the Huskies have surrendered on the ground this season. The previous high was 163 by Ohio State in the season opener.

USC compiled 565 yards of total offense today. The last time the Huskies gave up more than 500 yards of total offense in a game was when BYU posted 575 in a Husky loss, Sept. 9, 1999, at Provo. The previous high this season was 397 by Nevada two weeks ago.

Husky RS-freshman tailback Kenny James set a new career high with 58 rushing yards. His previous high was 45, vs. Idaho.
