Cardinal Dominate Doubles Action at ITA Northwest Regional Championships

STANFORD, Calif. - - As quarterfinal doubles action begins on Sunday, the Stanford women's tennis team boasts four duos in the hunt to advance to the semifinal round on Monday. Cardinal pairs remaining in the main draw include Lauren Barnikow and Erin Burdette, Alice Barnes and Joanna Kao, Theresa Logar and Story Tweedie-Yates and Emilia Anderson and Anne Yelsey.
Top-seeded Barnikow and Burdette defeated Camille Pamart and Anna Skogerboe of USF 8-0 and Sacramento State's Marta Gronowicz and Margarita Kaurnaukhova 8-4 to advance to the quarterfinals.
The Cardinal duos of Barnes/Kao and Logar/Tweedie-Yates will square off against each other in Sunday's quarterfinal round to determine which set moves on to semifinal action. Barnes and Kao downed San Jose State's Courtney Koeniasfeld and Ana Lukner 8-1, No. 3 seeded Chloe Carlotti and Lucia Tallo of Fresno State 8-3 and Oregon's Dominika Dieskova and Anna Leksinska 8-5. Logar and Tweedie-Yates defeated Deirdre Ring-Morrinson and Adele Rockett of Portland 8-0, Cal's Jessica Shu and Jody Scheldt 8-6 and Washington's Cheryl Naruse and Stephanie Svanfeldt 8-4.
Anderson and Yelsey notched victories over Gabriela Ruiz and Megan Tiegs of USF 8-3 and Oregon's No. 4-seed duo of Courtney Nagle and Daria Panova 8-5.
Cardinal senior Anderson and freshman Yelsey will face each other in quarterfinal singles action on Sunday. Anderson downed Cal Poly's Sheila Lewis 6-2, 7-5 in the round of 32 and Washington's sixth-seeded Dea Sumantri 7-5, 4-5 (30-0) ret. in the round of 16.
In the round of 32, Yelsey knocked off No. 2 seed Carlotti of Fresno State in three sets 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. Yelsey took the match against Cardinal teammate Kao in the round of 16 in three sets 6-1, 6-2.
Stanford's fifth-seeded Barnikow will also be seen in the quarterfinals after downing Washington's Dinka Hadzic 7-5, 7-6 (7) and Oregon's Dieskova in three sets 3-6, 6-0, 6-2.
Logar advanced to the round of 16 after defeating Cal's Catherine Lynch 6-2, 6-0, but then fell to No. 3 seed Daria Panova of Oregon 6-3, 2-6, 6-1. Barnes fell to Sasha Podkolzina of Cal 6-2, 6-2, and Tweedie-Yates lost to Roberta Fessenko of Sacramento State 6-2, 7-5 in the round of 32.
