Oct. 28, 2003

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington junior forward Brett Wiesner was named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 21-27, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Wiesner, from Brookfield, Wis., scored the game-winning goal in Washington's 1-0 win over Gonzaga (Oct. 26). He headed in a corner kick from senior Troy Ready to score the match's only goal at 13:44 into the first half. Wiesner led all players in the match with a total of eight shots.

Wiesner, Washington's leading scorer a year ago, scored his first goal of the season against Gonzaga. Due to injury, he ha d played in only five games, and has started just one prior to the Gonzaga game.

With the one-goal victory, Washington moved up to No. 8 in the Soccer America poll, and is No. 25 in the NSCAA/adidas Coaches/ Poll. The Huskies are now 7-0-1 against non-conference opponents this year.

This is Wiesner's first weekly honor, and the eighth all-time player of the week honor for the Huskies.
