THIS WEEK IN PAC-10 WOMEN'S SOCCER

This week UCLA battles for Los Angeles bragging rights, as the Bruins will try to defend their perfect home mark against Loyola Marymount and USC ... With a victory over the Trojans, UCLA will guarantee itself at least a share of the Pac-10 Title... The Bay Area schools look to capitalize at home as they host Washington and Washington State who hold a combined 1-5-1 record in Pac-10 away games... Oregon and Oregon State travel to the desert where they will play the Wildcats and a Sun Devil team that is undefeated on their home turf.

Here's how Pac-10 teams figure in the national rankings this week... NSCAA/Adidas: No. 3 UCLA, No. 14 WASHINGTON; Soccer America: No. 4 UCLA, No. 18 WASHINGTON.

PAC-10 PLAYER OF THE WEEK
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- UCLA sophomore forward Iris Mora has been named the Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 21-Oct. 27, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Mora, from Cancun, Mexico, helped lead No. 3/4 UCLA to victories over then No. 25 Arizona State and Arizona. In the match against Arizona State on Oct. 24, Mora scored the game-winning goal and notched two assists en route to a 4-1 Bruin win. The following game versus Arizona, Mora again scored the decisive goal this time in the 14th minute on a header from seven yards out. UCLA went on to win 4-0.

UCLA advanced their overall record to 12-1-3, and remain undefeated in Conference play at 5-0-1. This week the Bruins rank No. 3 in the NSCAA/Adidas poll, and No. 4 by Soccer America. The Bruins have outscored their opponents 9-1 in the previous four matches, 19-5 since their lone loss to No. 1 North Carolina on Sept. 19.

This is Mora's first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and UCLA's 10th weekly honor all-time.

PAC-10 WOMEN'S SOCCER NOTES

ARIZONA: The Wildcats 1-0 victory at USC on Friday ended a six-game winless streak for Arizona and marked their first victory over USC dating back to a 3-2 win on Oct. 5, 1995... SO MF Mallory Miller's game winning free kick from 25 yards out in the 19th minute tied her for the team lead in goals with six... The victory was also Arizona's first Conference road win since 1997.

ARIZONA STATE: The Sun Devils suffered their first back-to-back losses of the season... FR F/MF Courtney Crane scored her second goal in consecutive games in the Sun Devil's 4-1 loss to UCLA, her fifth of the season... Arizona State ranks in the top 3 in the Pac-10 in five of six offensive categories: points (3rd, 84), goals (2nd, 30), goals per game 2nd, 2.00 avg), assists (t3rd, 24) and assists per game (3rd, 1.60 avg)... JR GK Kelly Fitzgerald leads the Pac-10 in save percentage (.824).

CALIFORNIA: The Bears three first-half goals against Oregon State were the most the Golden Bears have scored in a half this season... In that game, Amy Willison notched her third and fourth assists of the season while substitute Dania Cabello came in during the 35th minute and tallied four shots and one goal...Cal is one of only three Pac-10 teams to have an away record over .500 (.563).

OREGON: The Ducks' 2-0 shutout of Cal was their first win in school history against the Golden Bears... SO F Nicole Garbin blasted seven shots in the game and registered two assists on the night moving her season assist total to six... Garbin also ranks first in the league for shots (63), shots per game (4.20), and her six assists and 0.40 assists per game mark rank fourth in the league... SO GK Domenique Lainez is second in the Conference with 4.62 save per game.

OREGON STATE: The Beavers edged the Cardinal 1-0 marking their first victory in the 11 game series with Stanford dating back to 1990... SO F Tessa Baker is averaging 1.31 points a game after notching a goal and an assist this weekend... FR GK Melissa Onstad leads the Pac-10 with 86 saves this season (5.73 spg)... Oregon State has taken a league low 188 shots, but are averaging 1.50 gpg, fourth in the Pac-10.

STANFORD: The Cardinal return to Palo Alto to close-out their regular season with a two week, three game homestand... In addition to an assist, SR D/MF Allyson Marquand scored her team leading seventh goal of the year in Stanford's 3-1 win over Oregon... R GK Nicole Barnhart is third in the league with a 0.80 goals against average, and is fifth with 2.94 save per game.

UCLA: The Bruins kept their undefeated Conference mark intact (5-0-1) as they swept the Arizona schools by a combined score of 8-1... UCLA now tops, or in is in a tie for the lead, in every offensive category in the Pac-10... In the Arizona State match, SO F Iris Mora and SR F Sarah-Gayle Swanson each tallied two assists and a goal, Mora added another goal against Arizona...FR GKArianna Criscione had nine saves on the weekend and boasts a league-leading 0.76 goals against average.

USC: The Trojans split games at Arizona and Arizona State last weekend falling 1-0 to the Wildcats and rallied to beat the then No. 18 Sun Devils 3-1... SR F Shannon Cross scored the tying and go-ahead goals in a seven-minute span to come back from a first half deficit of 0-1 against the Sun Devils... This weekend the Trojans look to snag their first win against UCLA dating back to Nov. 1, 1998 where USC won 5-4.

WASHINGTON: The Huskies blanked the Cougars 2-0 last week for their seventh shutout of the season... The five save sutout by FR GK Kelsey Rasmussen was her third in as many starts and in 405 minutes of collegiate play, she has yet to be scored on... SR F Melissa Bennett added to her school record notching her 29th career assist, eighth of the year... SR F Tina Frimpong currently leads the Pac-10 in goals (10), goals per game (0.62), points (23), points per game (1.44), and is sixth all-time at UW for goals scored.

WASHINGTON STATE: The Cougars look to rebound in the Bay Area this weekend after dropping a 0-2 decision to Washington last Friday... SR F Nicole Wilcox is eighth in the Pac-10 with 42 shots on the year, and is ninth averaging 2.80 shots per game... SO GK Katie Hultin ranks second in the Pac-10 with a save percentage of .818, and is averaging 3.86 saves per game, fourth best in the Pac-10.
