Griffin Selected To Soccer America's Team Of The Week
Oct. 30, 2003
Senior defender Leonard Griffin (Palmdale, CA/Littlerock HS) was selected to Soccer America's Team of the Week for games played Oct. 20-26.
Griffin led top-ranked UCLA to its 10th and 11th shutouts of the season in road wins at Stanford (2-0) and Cal (1-0). Against Stanford, Griffin assisted on Chad Barrett's game-winning goal and contributed to a defensive effort that held Stanford to just four shots, only one of which was on goal. In the Cal victory, Griffin and his teammates held the Golden Bears to 10 shots, two on goal.
Thanks to his defensive efforts all season, the Bruins have compiled a team goals against average of 0.40 with 11 shutouts in 15 games. The 11 shutouts tie for fourth on UCLA's all-time list for most shutouts in a season. Offensively, Griffin ranks fifth on the team with four assists.
This is Griffin's first Soccer America Team of the Week honor of the season and his career. UCLA players have now earned eight Soccer America Team of the Week honors this season.
