Cal Loses to Oregon State, 3-1
Oct. 31, 2003
Corvallis, OR - Cal fell to No. 15 Oregon State today, 3-1, in front of 502 fans at Lorenz Field. The Bears limited to the Beavers to five shots, but three found the back of the net. With the loss Cal fell to 7-8-2 and 3-4-2 in the Pac-10, while Oregon State improved to 11-4-0 and 5-1-0 in the Pac-10.
The Beavers started the scoring early in the eighth minute, when Brian Farber sent a ball through to Ryan Johnson, who found the bottom left corner of the net.
Soon after, in the 10th minute, Robbie Findley scored from a Ryan McNeley throw in. McNeley's throw went into the six-yard box, and Findley was perfectly placed to send a 10-yard header over Mike Oseguera's head.
Findley all but sealed the game in the 28th minute when he took a cross from Chad Bartlome. He faked left and then sent a shot from 20 yards out that deflected off the crossbar and in. The goal was Findley's eighth on the season.
The Bears went in the half to regroup, but there wasn't much they could do with a three-goal deficit.
Billmeyer had four saves on the game to Oseguera's one.
The Bears pushed everyone forward in the second half, as evidenced by their 14 second-half shots. Even defenseman Steve Purdy recorded a season high three shots.
Cal next faces No. 8 Washington in Seattle before heading home next weekend for their final home game against San Jose State.
