Cardinal Women Fall To Arizona In First Round Of Match Play

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - The Stanford women's golf team fell to conference opponent Arizona in the first round of the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championships in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The Wildcats carded four wins to defeat Stanford after the Cardinal were only able to win once in the first round.

Senior Angela Rho defeated Miriam Kraschinski, 5 & 3. Wildcat Erica Blasberg was victorious in the first round by scoring 2 & 1 to defeat Stanford senior Kim Kouwabunpat. Arizona's Mar Garcia defeated freshman Jenni Tangtiphaibootntana 6 & 5 in her first round. Wildcat Whitney Welch defeated junior Wendra Liang 3 & 2 in round one. Lani Elston defeated sophomore Kelly Husted, 1 up in the first round.

Stanford began second round play against Pepperdine on Sunday afternoon but play was halted due to darkness. Before the postponment, the Cardinal was able to play through 12 holes and is all square with the Waves going into the completion of round two.

The Cardinal will tee off in Monday's completion of the second round tomorrow morning with the third round beginning one-hour after the conclusion of round two. The tournament is being played at Barefoot Resort, Dye Course, a par 72, 7,343-yard layout.
