Stanford Women Best Pepperdine And ASU To Advance To Consolation Championship

Myrtle Beach, Calif. - The Stanford women's golf team defeated Pepperdine in the second round and Arizona State in the third round of the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championships being contested at the Dye Course at Barefoot Resort in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on Monday.

The Cardinal bested the Waves, 2-1-2, to advance into the third round of the consolation bracket where they faced Arizona State. Stanford then beat the Sun Devils, 3-1-1, to advance to the consolation championship final where they will take on Oklahoma State, who defeated Purdue, 5-1.

Stanford claimed the victory after senior Kim Kouwabunpat defeated sophomore Carolina Llano, 3 and 2, and fellow senior Angela Rho posted a 3 and 2 victory over Catherine Woods. Eileen Vargas claimed the Waves' lone victory in the match as she defeated junior Wendra Liang, 4 and 3.

Freshman Lauren Todd and Kelly Husted each halved their matches.

Against the Sun Devils, Stanford's Kelly Husted defeated Charmaine Erasmus, 4 and 3, while teammate Angela Rho picked up her second victory of the day with a win over Tiffany Tavee (1 up). Lauren Todd was a winner over Erin Tone, 1 up. Senior Kim Kouwabunpat halved her match with Sara Jones.

Freshman Jennifer Tangtiphaiboontana was defeated by Josefin Gustafsson, 1 up.

Stanford will tee off at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow morning from the 10th, 11th and 12th tees.
