The Facts
The undefeated and top-ranked USC women's volleyball team (22-0, 13-0 Pac-10) - the defending NCAA and Pac-10 champion - travels to the desert this week to face Arizona (11-12, 5-7 Pac-10) and Arizona State (8-13, 3-9 Pac-10). The Women of Troy will face the Wildcats on Friday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. MST in Tucson. The match will be tape delayed by Fox Sports Net and will air starting on Saturday, Nov. 8 (please check local listings for additional dates and times). On Saturday, Nov. 8, USC travels to Tempe to face the Sun Devils at 7 p.m. MST.

The Women of Troy are coming off 3-0 victories over No. 10 Washington and Washington State last week. In the two sweeps, April Ross led the team with 31.5 total points, 3.83 kills and 3.5 digs per game, while Emily Adams led with 2.20 blocks per game and Alicia Robinson led with a .611 (12-1-18) attack percentage.

The Rankings
After entering the season at No. 1, the Women of Troy have held on to the top spot every week. USC kept all 65 first-place votes to remain No. 1 on this week's USA Today/AVCA Coaches Top 25 poll and the top spot in the Volleyball magazine poll.

Haley Earns 600th Career NCAA Victory
Head coach Mick Haley collected his 600th career NCAA victory last week with a 3-0 victory over Washington State on Nov. 1. In his 20 years as head coach at the Division I level, Haley has amassed a 600-142 (.809) NCAA record.

USC Holds Lead in Conference Race
USC improved to 13-0 in conference play with last week's wins over Washington and Washington State. The Women of Troy now own a three-game lead in the race for the 2003 conference title. California, UCLA and Stanford are tied for second place at 10-3.

Charting the Streaks
USC has won its last 34 consecutive matches, 14 consecutive home matches and 29 consecutive road matches. The Trojans also have not dropped a road match since the 2001 season (a 3-1 loss at Stanford, 11/10/01).

The Last of The Unbeatens
USC is now the only Division I team left unbeaten after Georgia Tech, who had recorded 23 straight wins to start the season and was the only other undefeated team last week, endured a 3-2 upset to Maryland on Nov. 1.

22 Wins Match Best Start Since 1977
At 22-0, USC has surpassed last year's 19-0 start (USC dropped to 19-1 after falling to Stanford on Nov. 2, 2002). Its 22-0 record marks the best start since 1977 when USC captured the AIAW National Championship and finished the season with a 38-0 mark - the first undefeated record ever logged by a women's volleyball team in NCAA or AIAW history.

USC Adds Another Win Over Ranked Team
The Women of Troy defeated 10th-ranked Washington, 3-0, last week for their ninth victory over a ranked opponent and their seventh sweep. All of its ranked foes have been ranked among the top 13 and nine of the 10 have been ranked among the top 10. With arguably the nation's toughest schedule, USC has already defeated No. 2 Hawai'i (Aug. 22), No. 3 Florida (Aug. 21), No. 8 Northern Iowa (Aug. 30), No. 8 Pepperdine (Sept. 3), No. 13 Washington (Oct. 4), No. 7 Stanford (Oct. 17) and No. 10 Washington (Oct. 31), all by 3-0 scores, and beat No. 9 UCLA (Sept. 19), 3-1, and No. 5 California (Oct. 18), 3-2.

Pac-10 Features Five Teams In Top 11
The Pac-10 continues to show why it is the most competitive volleyball conference in the nation. Five Pac-10 teams are ranked among the top 11 in the AVCA poll this week, including No. 1 USC, No. 6 UCLA, No. 8 Stanford, No. 9 California, and No. 11 Washington. Half of the conference is in the top 11. The West Coast Conference (Pepperdine, Santa Clara, Loyola Marymount, San Diego) is next on the list with four teams ranked in the top 20.

Former National Team Coaches Cross Paths
Saturday's match versus Arizona State will pit two former Women's Volleyball National Team coaches against each other. USC head coach Mick Haley coached the U.S.A. for four years (1997-2000), just as ASU head coach Brad Saindon was guiding Australia's National Team. The two led their teams to unprecedented performances at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. Haley led the U.S.A. to a fourth-place finish, while Saindon's team finished ninth.

Homecoming For Adams And Robinson
Juniors Alicia Robinson and Emily Adams both grew up in the Phoenix area. Robinson prepped at Central High and was the 2000 Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year. Adams prepped at Xavier College Prep where she was the 4A-5A Arizona Player of the Year as a senior. The two were club volleyball teammates throughout high school. They are also the daughters of well-known former Phoenix Suns, Truck Robinson and Alvan Adams.

Other Arizona/Arizona State Connections
* The Arizona Wildcats boast nine players from the state of California.
* Arizona head coach David Rubio and assistant coach Steve Walker both began their coaching careers in California. Rubio coached at CS Bakersfield, CS Northridge and Granada Hills HS, while Walker coached at Westminister HS.
* Arizona State has five players that hail from California.

Outstanding Numbers
USC is currently leading the Pac-10 in hitting percentage (.359), opponent hitting percentage (.127), kills (17.57) and assists per game (16.10). The Women of Troy also lead the nation with their .359 attack percentage, in addition to ranking fourth in assists and kills and 12th in blocks.

It's All About The Team
Just like last season, USC relies on a true 'team' effort to win matches. There is not just one go-to player for the Trojans, there's a team full of standouts all sharing responsibility. Currently, three players are averaging more than 3.20 kills per game (April Ross - 3.62, Emily Adams - 3.57, Keao Burdine - 3.20), two average more than 1.2 1.0 blocks per game (Adams-1.51, Bibiana Candelas-1.24), three average more than 2.64 digs per game (Nicole Davis - 3.70, Ross - 2.99, Burdine - 2.64) and six players are hitting above .350 (Adams - .479, Candelas - .442, Kelli Lantz - .389, Staci Venski - .385, Katie Olsovsky - .362 and even setter Toni Anderson - .550).

Ross' Spectacular Serving
April Ross added another three service aces last week to bring her season total to 44, just two aces short of her 2002 total of 46. With 44 this season, she now ranks fifth among USC's single season leaders (Nancy Hillman Somera owns the single season record with 59 in 1988).

Washington/Washington State Recap
vs. #10 Washington

vs. Washington State - Using its entire bench, USC eased past Washington State with a 3-0 (30-16, 30-18, 30-21) victory in front of a capacity crowd on Nov. 1. Alicia Robinson shined with a season-best 11 kills off of 15 attacks for a .667 attack percentage. The Cougars had little chance against the Women of Troy's more dominant attack. USC out-hit WSU .368 to .034 and out-blocked the Cougars 13.0 to 5.5. In the first game, the Trojans twice led by as much as 16 points before posting a 14-point victory, 30-16.
