Nov. 6, 2003

TUCSON, Ariz.- The Arizona volleyball team downed its fourth top 10 team of the season with a 3-0 sweep over the No. 6-ranked UCLA Bruins at McKale Center on Thursday. Game scores were 30-21, 37-35, 30-24.

Arizona moved to an even 12-12 overall with the win and improved to 6-7 in the Pac-10 with five conference matches left to play. UCLA, which has lost twice to Arizona this season and three straight times dating back to last season, fell to 19-5 overall and 10-4 in the Pac-10.

An impressive Arizona defensive effort stifled the usually potent UCLA offense. The Wildcats posted 69 digs and 12 total team blocks on the night, with both marks establishing three-game match highs this season. UA's defensive effort limited the Bruin offense to a .098 attack percentage for the match and helped the Wildcats rally from a 29-24 deficit in game two.

Individually, Kim Glass led the Wildcats in kills for the 22nd match this season with 21 put downs. The outing marked her 13th contest this season with 20 or more kills, one away from tying her school single season record of 14 set last year. The sophomore outside hitter also dug up a career-high 19 balls to lead all players on the night.

Classmates Jennifer Abernathy and Bre Ladd added 13 and 11 kills, respectively. Ladd finished the night with a match-high .588 hitting percentage with just one error on 17 swings. Junior libero Kelli Mulvany, who finished with 18 digs against the Bruins, tallied her sixth consecutive match in double digits. Mulvany's classmate Jolene Killough posted eight block assists to pace all players.

UCLA, which finished with three players recording more errors then kills, was led by Colby Lyman's 13 kills on .306 hitting and Chrisse Zartman's 14 digs.

Arizona returns to action on Friday with a match up with undefeated and top-ranked USC.
