Bruins Sweep Sun Devils in Women's Volleyball

TEMPE, AZ - UCLA recorded a 3-0 win over Arizona State in impressive fashion on Friday night at Wells Fargo Arena with game scores of 30-19, 30-25, 30-17. UCLA improves to 20-5, 11-4 Pac-10, while the Sun Devils fall to 8-14, 3-10 Pac-10. Colby Lyman led the Bruins with 11.5 points in the match.

The Bruins turned in a dominant first game of the match, hitting .500 as a team on an error-free 14 kills on 28 attacks. Brynn Murphy led the Bruins with six kills on nine attempts for a .667 attack percentage, while Brittany Ringel hit .714 with five kills on seven attacks in the opening games.

UCLA came back down to earth in game two, hitting .310 as a team, getting the 30-25 second game win. At the break, leading two games to none, UCLA was led by Brynn Murphy with eight kills, although her evening was ended by an injury late in the game. Brittany Ringel was still hitting .500 on seven kills with one error on 12 total attacks.

In game three, the Bruins enjoyed several long scoring runs, with two runs of five points and two of four points to close out the match with a 30-17 win.

UCLA out-blocked the Sun Devils by an 8-2 margin, and spread around the team's offense, with no player finishing with double-figure kills. Colby Lyman led the Bruins with 11.5 points, having a team-high nine kills to go with two service aces and a block assist. Murphy and Brittany Ringel also finished with double-figures in points, as Murphy had eight kills, an ace and three block assists to finish with 10.5 points, and Ringle had nine kills and a solo block for her 10 points.

With 20 digs in the match, junior libero Chrissie Zartman recorded her 1,200th career dig, moving into fourth place on UCLA's all-time list.

UCLA returns to action next week with its last two regular season home matches, a Thursday night contest against No. 8 Stanford, followed by a Friday night match against No. 9 California. Both matches are scheduled for 7 pm starts in Pauley Pavilion. Friday's match against the Golden Bears will be senior night, honoring UCLA's two seniors, Cira Wright and Natalie Ray.
