Men's Golf Junior Varsity Finishes Ninth at Del Walker Collegiate Classic

TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's golf junior varsity shot a 12-over-par 296 Friday to finish in ninth place at Del Walker Intercollegiate in Long Beach, Calif.
After shooting a three-under 218 in Thursday's second round to move into fifth place, the Wildcat JV struggled on Friday, as just one UA golfer managed to break par in the final round. Arizona's 21-over 873 total dropped the team into ninth place in the field of 13. UC-Riverside won the event with a three-over 855 total.
Freshman Nathan Tyler was the top-finishing Wildcat, as he carded a one-under 70 in the final round to place eighth overall with a 211 (-2) total. The Tucson, Ariz., product had two rounds under par in the event, including a second-round 66 which is the second-lowest round recorded by a Wildcat golfer this season. It was also Tyler's first collegiate top-10 finish.
Junior Nick Juszczak and freshman Billy Whalen each collected top-30 finishes with solid efforts. Juszczak fired a one-over 72 Friday and finished the 54-hole event with a five-over 218 total to tie for 21st place. He finished five places ahead of Whalen, who was one of three UA golfers to make his collegiate debut. Whalen carded a 219 (+6) total to tie for 26th place.
The Del Walker Intercollegiate was held at Virginia Country Club, a par 71, 6,673-yard layout.
This was Arizona's final team event of the fall season. The Wildcats will next be in action, Feb. 2-3, when it hosts the PING-Arizona Intercollegiate at Arizona National Country Club in Tucson, Ariz.
