Women Of Troy Get Going Early In 3-1 Win At Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. - Two crucial goals in the final 14 minutes by Shannon Cross and Tina Sutorius gave the USC Trojans a 3-1 victory against the host Oregon Ducks in Pac-10 Conference women's soccer action at Pape' Field. The win aids the Women of Troy's chances for a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
USC improves to 8-7-4 overall and 4-3-1 in Pac-10 play. The Women of Troy are now tied for third in conference with Stanford, one game behind Arizona State. Oregon falls to 9-9 overall and 3-5 in conference action.
It only took 36 seconds for the Trojans to take the lead after Kelly Blais recorded her fourth goal of the season off a ricochet against Oregon goalkeeper Domenique Lainez. The Ducks tied the game at 58:20 when Oregon was awarded a penalty kick. Lindsey Werdell converted to tie the game at 1-1.
Cross scored at 76:06 off a pass from Ashley Casas on the right side. From 15 yards out, Cross' shot dribbled across the line for the go-ahead goal. Sutorius added an insurance goal at 88:26 with a flick from 23 yards out off Lainez on a breakaway.
The Women of Troy concludes the regular season with an 11 a.m. match on Sunday (Nov. 9) at Oregon State. The 64-team bracket of the NCAA Tournament will be announced on Monday (Nov. 10).
