Cougars Defeat Ukraine In Exhibition

Nov. 10, 2003

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Junior Thomas Kelati (Walla Walla) recorded a game-high 14 points to lead Washington State to a 68-57 win over MBC Nikolaev in men's basketball exhibition, Monday at Beasley Coliseum.

Junior Shami Gill added a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while senior center Ezenwa Ukeagu chipped in 12 points.

Senior guard Marcus Moore was held to six points, but contributed a game-high seven assists and did not commit a turnover. As a team, WSU had just four turnovers, all after intermission.

'Midway through the second half I thought the defense came together and that is where we won the game,' WSU Head Coach Dick Bennett said. 'We got to them quicker. I think in the first half we were somewhere in the middle of help and recovery and gave up some easy baskets.'

The Cougars conclude their exhibition season hosting EA Sports, Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The opponent features former UCLA players Matt Barnes, Ed O'Bannon and Ray Young.
