Marcus Moore On Naismith Watch List
Nov. 10, 2003
ATLANTA, Ga. - Washington State point guard Marcus Moore is among the preseason candidates for the 2003-04 Naismith Men's College Basketball Player of the Year Award.
Moore led the Cougars with 18.2 points last season and ranks 19th all-time at WSU with 1,066 points. He was one of only three players in Cougar history to record 1,000 points, 300 assists and 125 steals. He declared for the NBA draft last spring, but withdrew in order to return to WSU for his senior season.
The Naismith Awards program, now in its 36th year, honors the outstanding college basketball players in the United States. The awards program was founded by the Atlanta Tipoff Club, an organization dedicated to recognizing the achievements of student-athletes in basketball.
The candidates were selected by a vote of the Board of Selectors comprised of leading basketball coaches, journalists, and basketball analysts. Members of the board were asked to name top male players who are most likely to be in contention for the award.
'Both the men's and women's fields, from top to bottom, are extremely talented,' said Jackie Bradford, president of the Atlanta Tipoff Club. 'The race for the Naismith Award will once again be very competitive and exciting.'
