No. 11 Washington Volleyball Sweeps Oregon

SEATTLE - The 11th-ranked Washington volleyball team (17-7, 8-7 Pac-10) defeated Oregon (3-20, 8-7 Pac-10) in straight games this evening at the Bank of America Arena. Game scores were 30-14, 30-19, 30-16.

The Huskies out hit the Ducks .468 to .075 and made just eight attack errors on 94 swings. UW also out served (10-0) and out blocked the Ducks (13-4).

Sanja Tomasevic and Kaitlin Leck led Washington's offense, each posting double figure kills and hitting above the .400 mark. Tomasevic tallied 15 kills with a .481 hitting percentage, while Leck had 12 kills and hit .455.

Washington came out hot in Game One, overwhelming Oregon with 16 kills and hitting .448. The Ducks posted eight kills in the opener but also had nine errors for a -.030 hitting percentage. The Huskies quickly went up by six points at 14-8 and a 7-0 UW run blew the game wide open at 21-8. Washington put the game away with a pair of kills by Darla Myhre and Leck, and a kill by Jessica Veris to take the game, 30-14.

The Ducks opened Game Two with a pair of kills by Jaclyn Jones to take their first lead of the match. Washington and Oregon traded points through 8-all before the Ducks took their final lead of the match on a UW error to go up by one. Washington pulled away at the 13-11 mark with a 12-2 run to take the 24-13 lead. The Huskies closed out the match with a Leck service ace and kill and an Oregon error to win Game Two, 30-19.

Washington showcased its hitting ability in Game Three, hitting .645 and recording 21 kills on 31 swings with just one error. Tomasevic led the Husky offense with seven kills in the game. Oregon kept the game close early on, trailing by three points at 8-5 but the Huskies went on a 7-2 run to take the 16-7 lead. UW pushed its lead to 22-10 with four straight Husky kills, including two by Leck and one by Kara Bjorklund and Alexis McDonald. Washington repeated that performance at 23-13, as a pair of kills by Egan Metcalf, an ace by Veris and a kill by Tomasevic gave Washington the 27-14 advantage and eventual victory.

Candace Lee anchored the defense with 11 digs, while Tomasevic tallied seven blocks, including four solos. Courtney Thompson finished the match with 47 assists.

Oregon was led by Jones with nine kills and Sarah Mason with eight. Katie O'Neil posted nine digs for the Ducks.

The Huskies continue their homestand with one match next week against Washington State. The teams will square off on Nov. 14 at 7 p.m.
