Arizona's Wilks Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

Nov. 11, 2003

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- ARIZONA junior forward Candice Wilks has been named the Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Nov. 4-10, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Wilks, from Altadena, Calif., came off the bench to score both goals in a 2-1 win over Washington State (Nov. 7). Battling back after a sustaining a foot injury from the week before, Wilks entered the game in the first half to score both Wildcat goals, including the game-winner in the 62nd minute. Wilks had only two shots on the night, both of which were goals. In Arizona's 3-0 loss to Washington (Nov. 9), Wilks tallied one shot on goal.

With the win over WSU, the Wildcats logged their first victory over the Cougars since the 1997 season, and the win was the first for head coach Dan Tobias over his former team. The win gave Arizona its best Conference record ever, and marks the first time in school history it won two Conference road games in the same season.

This is Wilks' second Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and Arizona's fourth weekly honor all-time.
