Basler Named Semifinalist For Ray Guy Award

PULLMAN, Wash. --- Washington State sophomore Kyle Basler was named one of 10 semifinalists for the fourth annual Ray Guy Award, given each year to the nation's top collegiate punter, the Greater Augusta Sports Council announced Wednesday.

Basler, a native of Elma, Wash., is averaging 43.6 yards per punt this season and has dropped 22 of 60 inside the 20-yard line.

The semifinalists were determined by evaluating their overall statistics with emphasis placed on net average, percentage of total punts inside the 20, average return yardage, and percentage of punts not returned.

Ray Guy, the award's namesake, played for the Oakland Raiders from 1973-1986 and is a native of Augusta, Ga.

The 2003 Ray Guy Award recipient will be announced Thursday, Dec. 11 on the ESPN College Football Awards Show.
