Women's Basketball Signs Two Players For 2004-05 Season
Nov. 14, 2003
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Claire Pallansch, a 6-2 forward from Redmond, WA, and Nikita Gordon, a 5-11 forward from Lathrop, CA, have signed letters of intent to play basketball next season at Oregon State University, announced Beaver head coach Judy Spoelstra on Friday.
Pallansch will join the Beaver squad for the 2004-05 season after graduating from Redmond High School, where she helped lead the team to 25 straight victories as a junior and a sixth place finish in the 4A Washington State Basketball Tournament. During the tournament, Pallansch finished with 35 points and pulled down a tournament-leading 37 rebounds. On the 2002-03 season, Pallansch scored 209 points and blocked 42 shots.
'Claire Pallansch is a very physical and athletic power-forward from the state of Washington,' said Spoelstra. 'She likes to spend a lot of time in the gym and a lot of time working out - we're really excited about that. Obviously with losing Brina (Chaney) and Hollye (Chapman) - (to graduation) - this was a position that we needed to shore-up and we're very excited about Claire coming in.'
Gordon will join Oregon State after finishing her prep career at Sierra High School. The all-league performer also competed for Tracy High School before transferring to Sierra for her senior season. Gordon was a member of the Valley Oak League championship team in 2000-01.
'Nikita had an outstanding summer, playing for a team out of the San Jose area (Metro San Jose),' said Spoelstra. 'We felt like she played really hard and was very aggressive. She is a good shot blocker, good at deflections because of her long arms, and has great anticipation skills.'
Gordon has received team 'Best Defensive Player' as well as MVP honors.
'She is a very physical player for someone in high school,' said Spoelstra. 'We think she'll play the 3 position for us and will be good perimeter player, yet she's somebody that can take the mismatch inside and post-up.'
Oregon State expects to receive one more letter of intent for the early signing period.
