No. 25 Volleyball Downs No. 11 Washington, 3-1

Nov. 21, 2003

TUCSON, Ariz.- Sophomore Kim Glass broke her own single season record for kills and tied the career mark for matches with 20 or more kills as the No. 25-ranked Arizona volleyball team defeated No. 11-ranked Washington, 3-1, at McKale Center on Friday. Game scores were 30-23, 30-27, 19-30, 30-25.

The victory handed Arizona a two-game cushion above the .500 mark overall at 15-13 and pulled the Wildcats even with the Huskies in the Pac-10 standings at 9-8. Washington fell to 18-8 overall with the loss.

Glass, who has accumulated 572 kills this season alone, snapped her one-year old single season record of 556 late in game two with her 12th kill of the match. She finished with a match-high 27 kills on.362 hitting, marking her 16th contest of the season with a score or more kills. The 16 matches this season added to her freshman total of 14 last year ties her at 30 for her career with former Wildcat great Barb Bell who posted the impressive mark over four seasons from 1993-96.

As a team the Wildcats used a balance of offense and defense to jump out to the 2-0 lead at the break. Arizona committed zero hitting errors and plastered the McKale Center floor with a .609 hitting percentage in game one and posted five total blocks in game two

The Huskies bounced backed with a dominating win in game three after jumping out to a seven-point lead early. UW hit .517 for the frame, while limiting Arizona to a match-low .161.

The loss in game three seemed to motivate Glass, as she ripped off 12 kills on 14 swings with just one error for a .786 hitting percentage in the decisive game four win.

Along with Glass' record-breaking night, classmate Jennifer Abernathy finished with 17 kills on .333 hitting and middle blockers Jolene Killough and Bre Ladd posted seven and five blocks, respectively.

Arizona will close out the conference schedule on Saturday with a rematch with Washington State. The Cougars (9-19, 5-12) defeated Arizona, 3-1, in Pullman earlier this season. First serve is set for 7 pm MST.
