Men's Hoops Hosts Cal State Fullerton Monday At 7 p.m.

Nov. 23, 2003

SUN DEVILS FACE TITANS: The Arizona State Sun Devils try for a 2-0 start for the first time since 1997-98 when they play the Cal State Fullerton Titans (0-1) on Monday, Nov. 24 at 7 p.m. ASU opened the season with an 89-72 win over Arkansas-Little Rock on Saturday behind Steve Moore's 26 points and Ike Diogu's 24 points, eight boards and five blocks. ASU led 40-39 at the half but outscored UALR 49-33 in the second half.

QUICK HITTERS FROM SATURDAY: Moore's 26 points is the most by a Sun Devil newcomer in the first game of the season since junior college transfer Isaac Burton scored 28 on Nov. 27, 1993, in a 106-95 Sun Devil win over Brigham Young...ASU has now won 14 straight home openers...junior point guard Jason Braxton matched a career-high with seven assists...Diogu and freshman Wilfried Fameni led ASU with eight boards. Fameni had six boards in the second half...Diogu's 13 free throws made was the most by a Sun Devil since Chad Prewitt made 13-of-14 vs. Oregon on Jan. 6, 2002.

FRESHMAN NOTES: Both Tron Smith and Keith Wooden started Saturday vs. UALR, the first time two Sun Devil freshmen have started the opening game in the past 13 seasons, when Jamal Faulkner and Stevin Smith started on Nov. 23, 1990. ASU played four true freshmen on Saturday and they contributed 16 points and 16 boards in a combined 62 minutes. It also marked just the third time a freshman was in the opening day starting lineup in the past 11 seasons, as only Donnell Knight (1999-2000) and Ike Diogu (2002-2003) earned opening-day starts in that time.

FREE THROWS: Steve Moore went 10-of-10 from the line and Ike Diogu was 13-of-14 as the Sun Devils made 35-of-43 (.814) free throws on Saturday. The 35 free throws was the most by the Sun Devils since they went 38-of-49 vs. BYU on Nov. 27, 1993. It is tied for the fourth-most in ASU history.

The only previous all-underclass lineup was on Dec. 28, 1992, when ASU topped Duqesne 103-81.
