Two Beavers earn honorable mention All-Pacific-10 volleyball honors

Nov. 25, 2003

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State's Laura Collins and Allison Lawrence received honorable mention recognition on the All-Pacific-10 Volleyball Team, which the conference office announced Tuesday.

USC's April Ross was named Pac-10 Player of the Year, and Stanford's Kristin Richards was selected as the league's Freshman of the Year. Cal's Rich Feller was named the Coach of the Year.

Collins is a three-time honorable mention selection, having also been picked in 2001 and 2002. As a senior this year, Collins is averaging 10.26 assists per game. Earlier this season, she became the third Beaver setter to record 3,000 career assists and she enters the final week of regular season play with 3,700 career assists. She has 103 kills (0.96 kpg) this year, and her .219 hitting percentage is the best of her four-year career. Collins also has 205 digs (1.92 dpg), 42 blocks (0.39 bpg) and 21 aces (0.20 sapg).

Lawrence, a junior, has earned All-Pac-10 honors for the first time. She leads the Beavers with 397 kills (3.61 kpg), 362 digs (3.20 dpg), 44 aces (0.40 sapg) and 455 points (4.14 ppg), and she ranks among the top 10 in the Pac-10 in all four categories this season. Lawrence has also made her way into the OSU record books this year. She enters this week's matches in 10th place on OSU's single-season list for kills; she could move up as high as seventh this weekend. She needs three more aces to tie for 10th on that single-season list, and she's 18 digs away from 10th on that list.

This is the second week in a row that the Pac-10 has honored Collins and Lawrence. The league announced the Pac-10 All-Academic Team last week, with Lawrence earning first team honor and Collins earning second team recognition.
